December 17

Hello! Today was a chill day (kinda). In the morning, I could sleep in. Once I got up, I continued copying the numeric lecture. (Then I found out that chatGPT has gotten really good at reading handwritten text on images. So maybe I can turn my handwritten notes into beautiful latex scripts soon?) This took until lunch.

I had to leave lunch kinda early, since today I had a quick meeting to discuss my presentation from last week (about my bachelors thesis). Kinda expected I got a B – this means my presentation was about as expected.
Then, my supervisor joined in as well and we discussed what I should still do for my thesis before starting to write it.

Once this meeting was over the seminar was held one last time. We had two presentations (both from Chinese students -> I (probably we all) had a hard time understanding them) which didn’t take as long as they should have. So this was over rather swiftly.

After the seminar, the “unc-student” among the attendees asked if anyone wanted to join for a quick beer – and I did, but I was the only one. So we ended up going to a bar and talked there for a bit.
Turns out, this other “student” actually has a doctorate in linguistics and works as a lecturer at another university. Also, more impressive than that, he speaks like 8 languages: Dutch, German, English, French, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish & Icelandic. Maybe even more that I forgot meanwhile lol.

Also, funny coincidence, there I saw a high-school friend of mine – who has the same first name as my 2nd. This was actually the 2nd time I saw him since after high-school. Fun times.

After this quick afternoon beer, I went home (I got home at 17:30ish) -> turned of my internet blocker (since now I’m on vacation) -> some PC time -> dinner -> some more PC time.

Then, I can confidently say, I did ask the chess woman out. Like an unc, I did it through Email. hahaha. It’s also the only way I can actually contact her at this point. And I think I did a good job with my email.

Application

Hey [her name]

This might be a bit weird, but please her me out 🙏

Since you most likely don’t know who I am: We had the AI & ML seminar together. I’m [my name] from there (I had my presentation three persons after yours).

I asked myself if you were single… If you are, I’m about 88% confident that we would match. Proof

Since this probably convinced you: Would you like to meet me some time?

  • No
  • Yes

[informal bye]

[My name]

PS. I initially wanted to ask you on Monday -> the stars somehow hadn’t aligned correctly(?) -> I didn’t -> I regret it now -> so now awkward like that😂

PPS. Feel free to make fun of this email, since fair enough 😂😂 Who wouldn’t haha

PPPS. My application is for being your boyfriend

The underlined words were links to the following things:

Proof: A website which gives a score for your match based on both names. So with the website I chose we had a score of 88%

No: This opened an email already written for her

Fuck no

EWWWWWWWW🫵😂 Get a load of this guy😂

Yes: This opened another email already written for her

In Love

Heyy

Today is your lucky day🍀 I’m single and ready to mingle

I have time on [Date & time – please fill this in]. And since you plan the date I’ll happily be surprised🥰

I just hate it if [add things here you don’t like]🤬

I’m already excited & see you soon🌸

–> I can confidently claim, that it was quite good & funny. lol.

Not even gonna lie: I was actually shaking a tiny bit, once I sent it to her. I mean, obviously lol.

Before sending my email, I even asked Daniel if it was good and shit. And he gave me the idea for the subject (application) but he also had another mad idea. I should set the subject to “waiting for your chess move” jokes. But I did feel like that’d be kinda weird, since she might not know, that I know that she’s a chess-woman. So I decided to go with “Application”

But now the most important thing: What did she answer?

Hey [my name]

First of all respect for this email. Sometimes I wished I had balls this big. These 88% match are sadly a bit high, since I’m a homosexual. Because of that, I have to decline this (otherwise really convincing) application.

Sincerely

[Her name]

So it didn’t work out. But I gotta say, I’m not feeling bad at all. I mean, at first it sucked a bit, but once I found out, I was never even a player, it all went away quite quick.
(It’s just a little sus, since in one interview from a few years ago, she mentioned that she has a boyfriend – but things change I guess.)

And also, there would be so many funny things to reply with:

  • Your homosexuality wouldn’t be a problem for me
  • Don’t worry. My dick is so small, I’m nearly a woman anyways
  • If it helps, I could identify as a woman

and so on. But obviously I didn’t. Actually, I didn’t reply at all (yet & probably won’t).

–> Then, for the rest of the day, I just spent some time on my PC -> shower -> & now I’m here writing (to) you.

That’s all for today. I’ll see you again tomorrow. Take care & Bye-Bye!

I gotta say, I’m kinda proud of how I did ask her out. The mail & also (more importantly) that I actually did it. SUI
